story of the fox and the shepherd
Mohan and Sohan were very close friends. Who lived in a small village. His parents were very poor. Both of them had a lot of fun. And always worked together. Every day he used to take goats for grazing in the forest, which was at some distance from the village. There were many trees and plants in the forest, and a small river also flowed. There lived a cunning fox in this forest, whom people often saw from a distance, but no one dared to go near him.
One day Mohan and Sohan had taken the goats to the forest to graze. It was evening and the sun was about to set. Suddenly they realized that they had lost their way. It started getting dark, and the goats also started scattering here and there. Mohan said, “We should return home quickly, because the sun is about to set.”
Sohan said, “Yes, but first it is important to find the goats. If they go away, we will be in a lot of trouble.”
After some time, they both set out to find the goats, but the path became more complicated. Feeling scared, suddenly they heard a voice. This voice was of some animal. Sohan whispered, “Is that the sound of a fox?”
Mohan, “No, it could be some other sound, because the fox is always silent.”
Meanwhile, a big white fox stood in front. Her eyes were shining and she was slowly moving towards them. The fox said, “What are you two doing here?”
Mohan said in fear, “We have lost our way, we need a way to return home.”
The fox said smilingly, “Why have you guys come to my forestYou shouldn’t have come here. But if you want my help, you’ll have to do something.”
Sohan and Mohan looked at each other and started thinking. Mohan asked, “Can we give you anything in return for your help?”
The fox said, “If both of you can graze the goats in my forest, I will help you.”
Sohan immediately replied, “We will help graze the goats in the forest, but we just need the path.”
After thinking for a while the fox said, “Okay, I will show you the way, but in return you can graze the goats in my forest.”
This proposal was a bit strange for Mohan and Sohan, but they understood that if they did not take the help of the fox, they could wander in the forest all night. So he obeyed the fox and started grazing the goats in the forest.
After some time, the fox pointed them to a safe path through the forest. Mohan and Sohan asked the goats to follow that path and both of them now walked on that path with confidence. They slowly reached near the house and their goats were also safe.
The fox followed and said, “Both of you kept your promise. Now I will show you the way home. Both of you can go home.”
Sohan thanked him and said, “Now we are never afraid of getting lost in the jungle, because we know that the solution to every problem lies in taking the right decision at the right time.”
The fox smiled and returned to the dense forest, and Mohan and Sohan returned to their home. After this incident both of them became more cautious. He understood that in any situation we should use our wisdom and courage. Sometimes taking help from someone can solve our problem, but we need to understand that we should accept any help with full consideration.
